YOUR WOODLAND

How can we rejuvenate your woodland?

Most woodland owners are surprised by what their woodland could produce — financially and ecologically. If your wood hasn’t been touched in years, it may be worth more than you think.

Historically, 97% of British woodland has been managed in this way for centuries, creating the landscape we have today.

The Environmental Case

Managed woodland is healthy woodland.

English woodland has been managed for centuries. Coppicing and selective felling aren't modern interventions — they're how our native woods stayed productive and diverse for generations. Nelson's fleet was built from English oak grown in working, actively tended woodlands.
Leave a woodland unmanaged and the canopy closes. Light disappears from the forest floor. Plants die back. Biodiversity falls. Selective felling reverses that — the canopy opens, dormant seeds germinate, flora and fauna return. The trees that remain grow faster and stronger, and a healthy, growing woodland absorbs more CO2, not less.
Why it matters

What good woodland management does

We begin with previously unmanaged, unproductive woodland. Here's what changes.

Thinned, Coppiced & Harvested

The best trees are released, and the canopy opens.

LIGHT REACHES THE
FOREST FLOOR

The understorey wakes up

Woodland becomes healthier

Less prone to windblow, pests, disease and wildfire

Woodland becomes healthier

Flora and fauna return to a more diverse, open habitat.

Timber growth accelerates

Remaining trees grow in volume faster - and absorb more CO2.

Better quality, higher value timber

And financial income for you.
Your Timber

Nothing leaves the site as waste.

The timber we fell goes to our own sawmill in Hawkhurst, where South East Oak Sawmills converts trunks into planks, beams, sleepers and cladding. Timber that wouldn't be economical to transport to a conventional mill is recoverable at ours — which means more of your woodland generates income. A tree takes a century to grow. Most sawmills use 20% of it. We built ours to recover far more. Material that can't be milled goes to woodfuel. Very little leaves as waste.
The Financial Case

Your woodland could be generating income.

If you own woodland we can turn that standing resource into a tax free payment to you (payment is made by bank transfer with the reference "standing timber"). A site visit is free and there's no obligation.
